So we’re starting to get the “have you mailed the Hogswatch prizes yet?” emails, and to this, I must say no, no, I have not, and I will not be for at least some time yet.

Why? Because a pipe burst in my garage. Directly above the office.

We’re in the process of doing water mitigation on the office, and will have a general contractor coming in the next week or so to replace the damaged walls and floor. Most of the office is either in boxes or has been destroyed, and we’re working on boxing the rest of it as fast as we possibly can.

Nothing has been mailed because nothing can be located, and even if it could be, I tragically have more important things to deal with right now.

Thank you for understanding.

It’s time for this year’s bookstore list! Now, as a reminder, these are only the bookstores who have signed up for this year’s pre-order promotional pin giveaway. You can still pre-order from your local even if they’re not participating. There are two pins: the fish, paired with SLEEP NO MORE, and the cat, paired with THE INNOCENT SLEEP. You’ll get one pin per book, and must pre-order both to receive both pins.

First, the update: eleven out of thirteen Hogswatch prizes were claimed before the deadline this year, and ten of them were claimed before our pre-holiday mailing deadline, which means ten of this year’s prizes have already been mailed!  Wow!  This is absolutely a new record for me, and carries me to my next task:

Mailing everything else that’s built up over the pandemic.

So as I dug through my house for shipping supplies, I kept finding envelopes. Envelopes…containing things. Things I had very clearly packed to ship, then never gotten around to addressing, sealing, or sending out.  I am great at the mail!  (This is sarcasm.)  So.  If I have promised to mail you something in the last couple of years (the pandemic times), please drop an email through my website, identifying what it was, and where it’s supposed to go.  I can check my email archive to confirm the original commitment, and get things addressed and sealed at long last.

The email archive step is important: don’t just email saying I promised you something when I didn’t, or we’ll both be sad.  But it would be truly awesome to get all these unsealed packages to go away before the end of the first quarter of the year.

A reminder.

All first-time comments must be manually approved.  By me.  And I am not always at my computer.

If you comment more than once, all comments will show up, and that skews the RNG. Please don’t.

Thank you.

seanan_mcguire: (Default)

All first-time commenters have to be hand-approved before your comments will appear.  This means that there can be a delay between commenting and the comment displaying on the page.  It’s not an error.  It’s not a glitch.  Please don’t comment ten times because you think it’s broken.

Thank you.

While I have not yet posted the Hogswatch winners, please be aware that all drawings closed at noon, Pacific, when I stated the winners would be chosen.  Time stamps on entries mean that no one who has entered hours after the drawings closed will be eligible to win.

A reminder.

If you are a first-time commenter on this blog, your first comment WILL be sent to moderation.  This means it WILL NOT appear until I approve it BY HAND.  I do other things, like writing books, during the day.  It can take a day or two for a comment to appear.  PLEASE DO NOT KEEP COMMENTING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO TRY AND MAKE YOUR FIRST COMMENT SHOW UP.  DUPLICATE COMMENTS CANNOT WIN GIVEAWAYS.

Please respect the RNG and my time by not trying to overload the system.  Thank you.

(Wow, this is so much more activity than we usually see around here.)

I have packed all the packages that have both been paid for and claimed, meaning the people who bought the books emailed with their mailing information, as requested.  I have replied to all the emails I’ve received, either to verify that the books are packed to go or to ask for more information.  If you have not received an email from me, I do not have an email from you.

Please submit an email through my website contact form with the name of the book you bought, your mailing address, and whether or not you want your book signed.  I want to get these off my bed so I can mail them so I can prep another batch.

When I do sales or giveaways through this blog, they are always only at the main blog.  Entries for the RNG must be submitted at the main blog; requests for purchases must be submitted at the main blog.  I am sorry if this was unclear.  The Dreamwidth mirror does not push updates, which is why this is a new post, but you cannot buy things from me through the Dreamwidth mirror.  Not today, not ever, unless very explicitly stated.

Thank you.

Hey, y’all.

So as many of you probably (hopefully) know, I have purchased all the remaining stock of the first three volumes of Velveteen from ISFic, and am currently in the process of getting it to bookstores (almost entirely Borderlands Books, in San Francisco, CA, since they were the ones who responded to me first) so that it can be sold.  It’s been a fascinating learning experience, involving a lot of books coming into and exiting my home.

(Because someone always asks: I am not doing any giveaways, mostly because I had to pay so much money in order to obtain all these books.  I need to sell them, because otherwise hoo, boy, I am in trouble.)

We’re prepping the next restock for Borderlands right now, and it includes all remaining copies of book one.  Which is to say, 54 copies.  There are, at this moment that I know of, 54 copies of Velveteen vs. the Junior Super Patriots earmarked for commercial sale in the world.  There are a few secondary sales, but they want $100+ per book, and there’s no reason to pay that.

If you have been wanting these books, now is the time to contact Borderlands, via either phone or email, and reserve whichever volumes you wanted to get.  We have literally ten times as many remaining copies of book three, but book one is about to vanish forever, at least in this form.

That was all; carry on.

The first time you comment here, your comment is sent automatically to moderation and will not be visible until it has been manually approved. It sucks, I know, but trust me, not doing that would suck even worse; the automated spam-catcher stops most of the spam, but lately we’ve been getting 5-20 messages in Cyrillic a day that I have to manually screen, and some posts have become virtually untenable (the Hogswatch winners post, for instance, was clearly grabbed by a spam site; setting it private hasn’t stopped the deluge, and I may need to delete it to kill the link).

Posting multiple times won’t get you out of moderation faster, especially not when it’s a giveaway post; any entries past the first will not be eligible to win. So please take a gulp and take a breath and go ahead and wait for the mods (usually me) to unblock things.

2018 was pants.

Alice died, and that…well, really, that was the end for me. So much of the rest of the year is a blur. I feel terrible about the things I missed, or didn’t celebrate the way I should have, and I’m trying to get caught up. Which is where you come in. Here is the link to my bibliography:

http://seananmcguire.com/other.php

If you get the chance or have the inclination, please click through and let me know if you notice anything missing. The “Comics” section will be built out in the next few days (I’m very excited about that); we’re focusing mainly on the “Short Stories” section, since that’s where I have the most published (by sheer quantity), and have almost certainly missed the most things.

Help?

seanan_mcguire: (Default)

Hey, y’all:

So blog posts are set up to mirror automatically to Dreamwidth.  That’s good!  But I can’t edit them once they appear there.  That’s bad!  So:

Comments left on the Dreamwidth mirror are not eligible for the Hogswatch drawings.  I’m so, so sorry.  I normally include this in the daily posts, and spaced this time.  But on the plus side, you have plenty of time to update your comments and post them to the correct entry, located at:

seananmcguire.com/blog

Whee, I love it when things find new and innovative ways to be wrong.

seanan_mcguire: (Default)

1. I’m locked out of my Dreamwidth account and can’t update the post there, so I’m making this post in order to push it out via the update bot: comments left on DW will not be considered valid contest entries for purposes of this ARC drawing.  I’m sorry that was not clear.  To enter the current drawing, please go to http://seananmcguire.com/blog/2018/04/17/when-the-crypt-doors-creak/

2. The first time you comment on my actual blog, your comment will go automatically into moderation.  This is normal.  You are not being singled out.  Please do not leave another eleven comments frantically trying to get approved.  Approval is performed manually by myself or Chris (who is currently traveling for business).  Additional comments will not be eligible to win, and will make me frown at you severely.

3. If you don’t want the book, just the comic and pin, that’s cool.  Just tell me if you win, as I won’t keep track of it now.

That’s all!  Happy hauntings!

seanan_mcguire: (Default)

Note the first: Several prizes went unclaimed, either because I received no contact from the winners or because they did not contact me until well after the cut-off time of noon Pacific Standard time on Sunday, December 17th.  I am genuinely sad about this, but the rules were stated clearly from the very first post.  We chose all winners at the same time this year to try and make it less confusing for people, since this way they would only need to check the blog for the roundup once.  If you did not email me by noon Pacific Standard time on Sunday, December 17th, you will not be receiving a prize.  I’m very sorry.

(We actually allowed a few mails received in the early afternoon, since I posted a reminder on Twitter at 2pm, but the mails that came in today, Monday, will not be honored.)

Note the second: And this one applies to all giveaways managed here.  Previous giveaways were managed via LiveJournal, where everyone had to have a unique identifier.  Here…not so much, resulting in one day where three different people all legitimately tried to claim the same prize.  Oops.  So future giveaways will require a multi-word identifier, whether it’s “Bob B.” or “Alex in New York” or whatever.  This way, I can be sure the right person is claiming and receiving their prize, and we can all be a little less confused.

Thanks for a delightful Hogswatch, and thanks to all who participated.
