I'm starting to have nightmares about my link list. Anyway...

The Horror Fiction Review has published a review of Feed, and says, "At the risk of seeming disloyal to some of my idols, mentors and all-around awesome cool guys like Brian Keene and Dr. Kim Paffenroth, I am going to go ahead and come right out and say it...Mira Grant's Feed just might be the best damn zombie book I’ve ever read." Well, that's hard to beat, really.

Brutal As Hell has also posted a Feed review, now with bonus profanity (yay!), and says, "Feed is hands-down one of the best zombie novels to be published in a long time, which is saying something extremely special given the volume of zombie literature being published right now. Grant weaves a plot with a substantial amount of twists and turns, never losing the quality of writing, and she is certainly not afraid to go to places most authors wouldn’t even consider. I've read some great books this year, but nothing has left me with such a sense of excitement for future installments or for zombie literature as a whole like Feed has. Mira Grant has certainly captured my attention in a way that no other author, particularly a new author, ever has. Run to your nearest bookstore to get this book immediately. Bring a machete if it makes you feel more comfortable." Dude.

Cookies, Books, and Bikes has posted a Feed review, and says, "I loved this book! I was captured by the story from the first couple of pages and couldn't stop reading until it was done. The action just dragged me right in and kept me reading. The story had enough action interspersed with more mild events keep me reading and waiting for the next big event." That's all I can ask for, really.

Here, let's break things up a little with a new interview of Mira, conducted by the lovely crew at Fanatic Space. With some new questions and some new answers, it was a really good time, and you should totally give it a look.

Finally, for right now, Girl On Book Action (this is my new Journey cover band name) has posted a fabulous Feed review. Her review is long, detailed, and doesn't offer many pull quotes...although she does criticize the number of typos in the book. Oh, well, can't win 'em all.

That's it for today; look for another roundup coming soon, as I struggle to reclaim my link file.

I am the Queen of typo noticing, and I don't recall any in Feed. You may recall that the only thing I asked about was using a glass for (hot?) tea in the restaurant with Georgia's parents. I do know it's done in Russia, with a holder to avoid burning one's hands, but I wasn't sure about Berkeley in a restaurant not advertised as Russian. *That* is what stopped me, not any typos.

I am the enemy of typos everywhere, so even the thought of one makes my blood run a little cold.

So I'm chatting with my PhD adviser today in her office, and we end up talking about Feed for about fifteen minutes.

You are apparently very popular with female Byzantine historians. This makes two of us who love the book!

Seanan should totally use "Very popular with female Byzantine historians" as a pull quote for a promo.

Similarly, my band is "somewhat more interesting than a dead goldfish". (After a particular School Day event at the Oklahoma Faire. When your audience consists of mostly 8 year old boys, it's a close one to call.

(We lost out entirely to the huge green caterpillar, however)

Hey now, she said there weren't very many typos - just that any at all bugs her.

Heh, congratulations on more good reviews. :)

Given how rigorous my editing process was, the fact that there are any at all sort of proves that EVIL GNOMES insert them after typesetting.

My housemate just finished reading Feed on my recommendation, and she LOVED it. She wanted to know why I hadn't described it as "post-apocalyptic investigative reporter." Kathleen is a reporter for a locally-owned newspaper, and dearly wants to be an investigative reporter for one of the big papers one day.

She tells me she got to about page 50, and set it aside for work and real life, etc. When she picked it up again, she had every intention of reading for a little while, then watching the episode of Castle my husband and I recorded for her, and turning in.

She couldn't put it down.

She finally got to a tense, scary scene, where the characters are surrounded by zombies and it's looking grim and she's dying to hear they survive. ("Right before George wakes up in the CDC," she told me, and I nodded knowingly.)

At that very moment, the house is plunged in darkness. Her first thought is, Oh no, they've cut the power so they can get me! Josh and I are safely asleep upstairs, where we might as well not even be in the same house. And she has to grope her way through the scary darkness where there might be a zombie or a few dozen lurking in wait for her, and the only light she has is from her iPhone.

She manages to find her way to her room in pitch darkness, hides under the covers, and eventually convinces herself that it was just an ordinary power outage due to all the rain we've been getting, that there isn't a zombie hiding in the darkness, and that this is just silly.

Of course she picks it up again as soon as she's awake, and of course she skips her pre-work nap to finish it. And of course the ending made her cry, and the first thing she did upon finishing it was text me to ask me when Deadline comes out.
