To celebrate the release of The Brightest Fell, here. Have an open thread to discuss the book. Judging by the comments I’m seeing, some of you have had time, and I’d really, really rather book discussion (sometimes including spoilers) didn’t crop up on other posts.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don’t read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned. (I will not reply to every comment; I call partial comment amnesty. But I may well join some of the discussion, or answer questions or whatnot.) I will be DELETING all comments containing spoilers which have been left on other posts. No one gets to spoil people here without a label.

You can also start a discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence, since I always wind up getting involved in these things.

I just got through the first meeting with the pixies. You made me *like* Simon Torquill. I'm pretty sure that's not fair! (Also, very well done, it's something I love about this book, and your work in general, and now I'm going back to reading it until I finish.)

And now that I've finished the book, that comment stands, but even more so. Simon's sacrifice at the end was very well done, I'd grown to like him enough for that to hurt.

Also, I've always liked the pixies as characters, but it was especially great to see them on equal footing with Toby & co for a few scenes. I hope we see more of Poppy eventually.

The April novella at the end was beautiful, and a truly unexpected surprise.

Oh my word. Oh my word. I did not finish until today - I did not start until a weekend, in part because I was so busy I could not afford to, but also in part because my husband had the book already - but today I did.

Oh my word. Oh wow. I loved the main book and all the revelations and changes. But it's the novella at the end that broke me. Oh. Oh my word. YES. But oh my word.
