To thank you all for your help and forbearance during Thomas's entry, it's time for some free fiction, and for checking in on Verity and Dominic as they continue their trip from New York to Oregon, with plenty of stops along the way. They've finally reached Oregon...which means it's time to deal with the parents.

This concludes the Verity and Dominic road trip cycle, and I am absolutely thrilled to have made it all the way across the country. I hope you've enjoyed the trip as much as I have.

You can download the new story now from the InCryptid short fiction page. Please download and save to read locally, rather than trying to read on my poor server.

This also serves as your discussion post.

First off, let me say how very happy I am that your Thomas is home. That you get to hear his purring again and put up with kitty mischief and big furry bodies in your way. That you get to cuddle him. I nearly cried when you talked about Thomas and cried again when you said he was coming home. Al my love for you and your kitties.

Also-- HAPPY BIRTHDAY~ the best birthday gift is your kitty <3 and I hope you had a good one and continue to have a good year.

and lastly-- thank you for giving us a gift when it's your special day, thank you for the lovely story that gave us another piece of their life and the shift and change in the household. The story was fantastic, I loved each person's reaction to Dominic and Dominic to the family, to the mice verifying Verity. :D Thank you thank you ~ and give Thomas a hug for me!

Hail to the recovery of Seanan's fuzzy boy! May his Health stay good longer than Alaska summer days!

And hail to Dominic not becoming a shooting range target. :-D As ever, I love the Aeslin mice, and the casual discussion of putting weaponry away like it's completely normal (and it is, for the Prices) was so fitting to the scene. The part where Dominic felt so bad out by the truck was heartbreaking. His pain comes across very clearly. I'm glad Mrs. Price seemed to see how lost he felt, and was able to accept him. Not to mention I'm a sucker for happy endings.

I'm always glad to see new short stories, Ms. McGuire. They add even more depth to the canon you've created, and the novels. Thank you for sharing them with us.

I loved it. As a fan, and as a mother. Also I nearly exploded trying not to laugh aloud at the mice - bad enough I've been giving my poor spouse daily Thomas updates, trying to explain the mice and why I was rolling on the floor laughing is more than I think his poor brain could handle.

I'm always thrilled by your stories, but it was the news about Thomas being home that really made me want to dance (and I might have picked up a cat and danced with them, if they hadn't given me That Look). I'm glad he's back, and I hope he's back to well and happy as soon as possible :-)

Yay!

But I do have a small request...

As the page goes longer and you add more stories, would it be possible to put an posted date in the description? Sometimes I lose track of what stories I have and have not and it will help keep track and avoid extra downloads from the server?

From: [identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com
Not...really? It would break up the flow of the page, but more importantly, I've found that when I include dates, people assume that matters more than the chronological flow of things. I try very hard to go chronologically, but it doesn't always work out that way.

So I was thinking it had been too long since I enjoyed these characters so I decided to catch up on the shorts I'd missed. I'd only read the first two....

It's been ten hours. I finish the novels in five hours. I've only gotten through to Antimony's short that's available for free.

And for some reason I read it all in a very uncomfortable chair. Why did I spend all this time in an uncomfortable chair?

Gah. Now I am reminded that I have to go and re-download all of the InCryptid stuff now that I finally have a computer of my own again. (Almost all of my data was recovered intact. My downloaded books were the only real casualty aside from my links, which included a particular recipe I have been unable to relocate, darnit.)

I'm so glad to hear that Thomas is feeling better. I have three cats, and they are my babies. The oldest, Annabel, has a number of health problems, so trips to the emergency vet and hospital stays are, unfortunately, not uncommon for us. She's a bundle of preexisting conditions at this point, so it's not even worth it to get pet insurance for her. But yeah, it's always such a horrible, powerless feeling when they're sick.
