Well, here we go.

As many of you have no doubt heard, through one channel or another, I'm getting ready to move to the Seattle area. The move is becoming increasingly, terrifyingly real, and at this point, I'm not sure I could slow down the process if I tried. (Which is probably a good thing, because let's be honest here: if I thought I could slow down something this stressful, I very well might.)

As part of my prep, I am opening a short-term Patreon called The Toaster Project, which you can read about here. The formal launch will happen in late May/early June, but as physical rewards are limited, I wanted to give all y'all the first crack at claiming them. A banner image and welcome video and all that good stuff will be forthcoming. In the meantime, Tara made me some snazzy welcome images, and also there are cat pictures.

Hooray for cat pictures.

I'm too small potatoes for the physical stuff, but pledge done!

I understand the pain of moving all too well. We finally (after many months of crazy) moved into our new place last week. It may take me a year to unpack and reorganize the books.

There is no such thing as small potatoes here; the $1 reward buys toast just as well as any other. :) Thank you so much for helping!

I'm on board with the Patreon thing since my sanity depends on a steady supply of quality new reading material, but while signing up I had a thought.

Have you considered having a public Amazon or other less ubiquitous online retailer wishlist? I was reading an article recently on the psychology of fundraising and it seems that people derive satisfaction from giving concrete things as opposed to abstractions like amounts of money. (Even though cash is often the most effective form of direct aid in many cases.) Just a thought.

I've got an Amazon wish list, and will provide the link to it a) when asked (so I'll say "if you're wondering what you can do to help, here's the Patreon, or you can request this list for housewarming gifts, and Ikea gift cards are VERY welcome"), and b) once I have a new address for things to be sent to. :) The last thing I need right now is more stuff to move.

Pledged! It's not much, but I am excited for this. Moving sucks, so you have my sympathies. But yes, IKEA is awesome. Most of my furniture is from there because when I moved to CA, what I could bring was what I could fit in my old Chrysler. I love my little green kitchen cart I got there too. Most useful impulse purchase I've gotten there. Hooray for Seattle! It's a great city. ^^

I don't know how things work in Seattle but I know that the university where I work has a Surplus Property 'store' where old furniture, computers, etc. is sold. For the first week only university departments can buy, 2nd week-University people (fac/staff/students), etc. but after 4 weeks it becomes available to the public. They have had a lot of rather unique offerings but it may be stuff that you would love to have (I bought a set of heavy-duty china for my SIL) and while it isn't new, it is inexpensive and is likely to contain more of the things you would want in your situation (bookshelves, desks, chairs) than some of the thrift stores (which seem to focus on clothing).

Yay! If you need any bookcases, we're putting in custom floor-to-ceiling bookcases in our clubhouse so the existing ones need new homes. You'd have to move them north, though, so it might not be worth it.

Glad I saw this post. Pledged just now.

I am not looking forward to having to move sometime in the next 6-8 months (depending on landlord's sale of the property. Complicating this is that my landlords are also the company I work for. So we're moving offices in late May, and then once they sell the property I'll need to move). But I'll likely be moving just somewhere in this same small town or the next town over. Moving states? I can't imagine the stress (or rather, can't remember it, as the last time I moved states was back in 1996). And I had a lot fewer books and dvds and cds then. But a lot more comics. So maybe it evens out?

Wishing you good luck with the move!

I am a tiny bit sad that our paths won't have a .01% chance of crossing anymore when I visit the in-laws in CA. Then again western WA is my heart-home and I am always glad to have more amazing people there to make it even better.

I wish you all the best, and may you find some local wildlife activities at least as interesting as the tarantula migration. If you need an excuse to get out of the city, the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge is about 90 minutes south but well worth the trip. So many eagles and otters! Accessible pathways! Excellent sunrises/sunsets!

We've pledged - you already had a line in our budget for the recurring tip jar, so we bumped it up a bit for the duration. Best of luck with the move, while we'll miss having you relatively local, we wish you the best. I remember how stressful buying a house and moving was when living in the same town as where we were moving, I can't imagine trying a long-distance move. Here's to everything going as smoothly as possible!

(An unrelated side note, because it happened while I was typing this, Joshua's choice of toy to bring in to daycare for this morning's show-n-tell was the plush penguin she won off your raffle table the first or second time we brought her to a Borderlands event. While she was too young to remember the event, we appear to have told her about it enough that she has a whole story about getting Penguin.)

I will still be doing Borderlands events, so I'll still see you!

Josh is best. <3 That penguin, and her joy, was why we started making sure to always have kiddie prizes.

I really wish I had more than $5 in my account, but a least the $1 pledge seems to get what I most desire — more stories!

...and because I had to look it up and figured somebody else might need to know as well:
Can I make a one-time donation?
"Patreon is a platform for recurring funding for creators, so unfortunately we do not currently support one-time donations. Every pledge you make to a creator is a recurring pledge charged monthly.

"If you'd only like to support a creator on Patreon for one month, simply delete your pledge after the first of the month, when we process pledges to creators."

Done! I've been MIA on social media lately, so this is news to me. Welcome to Seattle! This is where I first heard you in concert (which consequently led to me buying an album and then eventually All Of The Books). I know you've visited often, but I'm excited you will now be calling our city "home"! Good luck with the move... remember your friends really do mean it when they offer to help, but please save their backs by packing books in very tiny boxes (paper is heavy!).
