I have been living in the same house for over fifteen years. Understandably, this has led to a lot of stuff building up in closets and in corners. Sometimes I know it's there. Other times, it just sort of...happened, and I am constantly surprised by turning around and finding it looking at me.

As referenced in the BPAL post, I'm about to start selling stuff, both because I need to declutter and because I need the money. I'm not selling stuff that is a daily part of my life: I am not so desperate for cash that I'm even looking at my Pokemon, for example. I just need to have less stuff that I don't care about, and more liquid funds.

(Some of you know why this is. For the rest of you, please don't ask: I assure you, all will be made clear in the very near future. It's just one of those things where the foundation work is visible in advance, whether I want it to be or not, and as I am not a subtle beast, I'm admitting it up front. It's not major medical or Disney related. Yay on one, sad on the other.)

Figuring out how to sell my stuff is a fascinating exercise in chaos, convenience, and laziness. I'm actively bad at mailing things, as many of you know; selling in any way that requires mailing is just not a good plan until I'm desperate. I don't have enough for a yard sale, and I'd rather avoid going Craigslist for right now. So at least for a little while, I'm just going to be popping up with "make me an offer and either pick it up or be somewhere I'm already planning to be" things on various sites.

(It's working out okay so far. I sold a pair of bongos.)

So...

If you'd like to make me an offer on the 2011 San Diego Exclusive My Little Pony, mint in box, or on either the Teen Titans Go! or Gotham vinyl bags from San Diego Comic-Con 2015, drop me a line. Must be able to either pick up from me directly, or be planning to be somewhere I'm already going to be.

For those of us who don't have a camera in your house and a GPS tracker embedded under your skin and the psychic ability to know all things ....

How do we know where you'll be?

Cause I'm sure as heck not going to stalk you, I don't have that much free time.

The inchworm girl posts have up-to-date appearance lists, as does the front page of my website.

You've probably already considered this and rejected the idea, but ... there are consignment stores that exist for the entire purpose of running ebay sales for other people, and typically the way that works is that the shop takes the items, posts the ebay advertisement, answers all questions, and ships. The catch is they won't take anything they don't think they can sell on ebay for at least $X ($50 for the nationwide franchise I was considering.)

A lot of what I have is stuff like the SDCC bags, which seem to retail for about $5-10 on eBay (I did check prices, even though I'm not selling there). It seems to be not worth their time, and not worth my taking the percentage cut if I don't have to.

Feel free to ignore this, since it is related to the mailing of things, but if you do get to the point where you need to mail things that you rehome, here it is.
If you're mailing things within the continental US, the simplest way to do any kind of mailing (and cheapest TBH) is to purchase a cheap food scale and use paypal's shipping option - IF you own a printer. You do not have to be a business to use it - it's simply paypal.com/shipnow You put in the weight and kind of package and it generates a mailing label and you attach it to the box or envelope and away you go. A tracking number is included too, no extra charge. The rates through PPs site are actually lower than the post office's rates because PP has negotiated for lower rates. Through USPS's website, you can have flat-rate envelopes and boxes delivered to you at no charge as well, and once filled those can be mailed using the paypal shipping tool. You can also schedule pickup from a mail-person. I usually just go to the PO and hand the person my ready-to-go packages. I mail all kinds of things this way and have never had an issue with a package arriving to its destination - I do not really like spending any more time in a post office than strictly necessary, so the paypal shipping thing has been a lifesaver.

Anyhow, best wishes with the rehoming of things! I know the battle well.

Good luck, and may the process be as low-stress as it is possible for such things to be.

If you are on Facebook at all, there are a ton of "virtual garage sale" groups where you can put for sale posts. I find it a bit more comfortable than craigslist, for some reason.

I really should do the same thing - I have accumulate a ton of stuff and could do with paring it down, really.

Nothing on this list interests me, but I'll keep an eye out, since you're coming up to my town in April. Honestly, much more interested in the possibility of BPAL than more THINGS to clutter up the house I don't own, and will thus have to move from eventually. Tiny bottle pack smaller.

We just moved into a new house, which involves a lot of getting new stuff, and getting rid of old stuff. There's a website/app called OfferUp (offerupnow.com) that we've been using. Basically, you put your stuff online with photos and an asking price. People can then make offers on your items. Once you select an offer, you make arrangements on how to meet the person so they can pick it up. Seems to work pretty well, and you get responses quickly.

And of course, there's always Craigslist.

Is it too creepy stalkery to say I'd like to own something you've owned?

Having recently had to declutter for a major move - and still decluttering in preparation for another move - my deepest sympathies. It's tough.

For me a great deal of it has been recognizing the scale on which I'd been thinking: I was keeping stuff in anticipation of a need five, ten years down the road; that doesn't do any good when it presents a major problem NOW.

I just cleared out my storage unit and sadly nothing is really worth anything. I'm just convincing myself that no I do not need a replacement whatsit for a device I haven't used in ten years and probably never will.

I'm just going to sit here and hope that your need for liquid cash is related to something wonderful which will be long-term useful.

(I suspect you are not buying either a TARDIS or a winged unicorn capable of supersonic flight, but I'm sure there is something that is almost as wonderful and equally useful to you in the long term.)

Given the weight restrictions on air travel, does Helsinki count as a place you will be, please?
