Every month I make a post to tell folks what I'm working on, a) because it seems polite, b) because it keeps me accountable, if only to myself, and c) so you will understand why I do not have a social life. This is the January 2014 post. It's a few days late, because I was at Boskone all weekend. I am not terribly guilty about this.

To quote myself, being too harried to say something new: "These posts are labeled with the month and year, in case somebody eventually gets the bizarre urge to timeline my work cycles (it'll probably be me). Behold the proof that I don't actually sleep; I just whimper and keep writing."

Please note that all books currently in print are off the list, as are those that have been turned in but not yet printed (Half-Off Ragnarok, Sparrow Hill Road). The Winter Long, Symbiont, and Pocket Apocalypse are off the list because they're finished and in revisions with the Machete Squad. The cut-tag is here to stay, because no matter what I do, it seems like this list just keeps on getting longer. But that's okay, because at least it means I'm never actively bored. I have horror movies and terrible things from the swamp to keep me company.

Not everything on this list has been sold. I will not discuss the sale status of anything which has not been publicly announced. If you can't remember whether I've announced something, check the relevant tag, or go to my website, at www.seananmcguire.com. Please do not ask why project X is no longer on the list. I will not answer you.

***

A Red-Rose Chain.
October Daye, book nine. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. I can't say much about this book yet, since you're now all two books behind me, but it's gonna be fun. Status: 20,000 words in and moving right along.

Predator.
Forced Evolutions, book three. Medical science fiction/horror. The sequel to Symbiont. Status: waiting for the edits to come back on book two, at which point I'll get serious.

Chaos Choreography.
InCryptid, book five. Paranormal romance/urban fantasy, modern setting, first-person protagonist. We return to our original narrator as Verity reclaims the stage. Status: outlined, preparing to begin.

Echo.
Echo, book one. YA science fiction about parallel universes. Sort of Fringe meets The OC. With mathematicians and science, because I'm still me. Status: in outlines, getting ready to write the sample chapters.

Sit, Stay, I Hate You.
Coyote Girls, book two. Young adult horror/paranormal romance, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Having survived the events of Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues, Clady would really like it if her life would settle down and get, y'know, easy for a little while. Clady is not going to be terribly happy with me, either. Status: officially paused, because at this point I need to go back and end-to-end revise Lycanthropy.

Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues.
Coyote Girls, book one. Status: prepping for end-to-end revision.

The Nativity of Chance.
High modern fantasy ranging across the country, through the wonderful lands of Oz, and through a lot of explosions. Pythagorean philosophy meets the works of L. Frank Baum, alchemy meets modern technology, and a pair of cuckoos meet their destiny. Status: researching.

Pretty Poison Apples.
The sequel to Nativity of Chance, and that seasonal monarchs book I've been threatening to write forever. Stop looking at me like that. Status: researching.

Silver Slipper Blues.
The Ongoing Trials of Dorothy of Oz, book one. I'm blocking out the structure. I think this is a trilogy. More news to come, status: researching.

There are lots of other books floating around here—some finished and slated to be worked on further, others pending getting started—but these are the ones you're likely to hear the most about, at least currently. I'll update this list from time to time, as things move from "project" to "print" and new things take their places on the workshop floor.

You amaze me.

If I have more than two or three projects going on at once my head is ready to explode.

If I have less than ten, I feel lazy.

Just the title of the third Forced Evolutions book has me going "Ooooh!" and I haven't even seen the second one yet.

I'm looking forward to the books.
Wish I could have seen you at Dead Dog, but my household turned out not to have eaten any dinner of any sort by 7:30 so I had to return home and do something about it. Your Kaffeeklatch was informative, even if it was what Toby would probably call "amazingly short on coffee" (though I bet she'd add an expletive or two).

Chaos Choreography

Oooh. Love the title! I just reread the first two InCryptid books; between Istas and [livejournal.com profile] ursulav's Henrietta the Honey Badger I'm having a lot of fun with homicidal beasties lately. It just seems to be the right thing to comfort me after my kitty died.
