It's July, and you know what that means: a new Newsflesh novella! This year's release is "How Green This Land, How Blue This Sea," in which Mahir Gowda travels to Australia and tries to come to terms with the fact that people are people everywhere in the world.

If you've been missing the world of Feed, and have $2.99 to spare, this is the adventure for you! (I know, I know, "if you have three bucks, this is awesome" isn't the best marketing slogan in the world, but it's what I can come up with before eight o'clock in the morning. Work with me.)

Mahir! Air travel! Zombie kangaroos! This novella has everything, and it should have you. Available now in the US and Canada, July 17th in the United Kingdom.

Newsflesh novella, yay!

Bought it.

Read it, all in one gulp.

Am now sniffly and teary-eyed because of the ending.

Seanan, whatever name you write under, you are a marvel and an international treasure. Thank you.

Oooh.

Any possibility of Orbit putting out a Newsflesh anthology? I'm poor and while I buy your books, I don't wanna shell out for short stories....

I'd also appreciate an eventual real book, because my eyes aren't up to long-haul reading on the PC. Not to mention the whole family of four, one PC thing...

I love Mahir's voice, and the descriptions of both Australia itself and the travel, and and and... Seconded on thank you for including poly people, and I recognized some last names of some of the characters which was squee-making, and awesome novella! Plus, getting a sneak peek at Parasite now has me looking forward to that book even more!
As my housemate commented this morning, "You hate zombies, but you're cheerful about reading a new piece in Seanan's zombie universe. Weird."

Mahir always makes me happy :)

I am in the UK, and my pre-order arrived on my Kindle arrived about an hour ago- when I checked Amazon for the date, it came up as downloadable at about a minute past midnight. Just thought some of the UK people here might want to know...

It came out just two days before my birthday so I treated myself.

And promptly read it all on the train this morning, the train that I normally sleep on. Now I am exhausted but happy. It was of the awesome. I am very glad to see a different approach to coping with the virus.

I only skip that morning train nap for two authors. :)

They looked upon our zombie apocalypse, and they were not impressed. Heeee.

OMG POLY SQUEE.

I am already in love with Olivia, a lot.

THEY HAVE TIM TAMS. Your attention to detail is noted :D

half-bleached raven That is an absolutely gorgeous description.

Considering the current state of our national broadband network, the line about 'great strides in connectivity' would want to be true.

I have Australia. I win. YES YOU DO, JACK.

My stomach totally just dropped at the mention of the mosquitos. And again when the little roo got shot.

"I was starting to think you were the boss version of ‘my girlfriend who lives in Sydney.'" I LOVE IT.

AWWW BABY ROOS!

... did you just. You did. A KANGAROO STOLE MY BABY.

The quote from Mahir at the start of Part VI made me tear up.

THIS IS AMAZING. YOU ARE AMAZING. Thank you for this insight into how Australia could stay so quintessentially Australian even after the zombie apocalypse.

Mahir being forced to hold a baby kangaroo. AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Wow, this is like the "happy ending" story of Newsflesh, isn't it? It's so much more cheerful, it's surprising.

Should I ever be magically transported into Newsfleshverse (oh god), I'm heading to Australia. Which I kind of want to do anyway except the price and long plane flight kind of make me want to hide under a bed in fear, so probably not.

So now I've read it. Zombie kangaroos are somehow terrifying and incredibly sad at the same time. :(

One small nitpick for future consideration when writing Mahir - you had him refer to the season between summer and winter as "Fall", which is a name that's not used at all in England. It's "Autumn" on all occasions and anyone saying "Fall" would be regarded as a bit weird and trying to be American.

Brilliant story though. One of the things I loved about Feed was the world-building and the idea of a well-thought out and cleverly considered society that had developed from our own under the stresses of zombies. It was beautiful to get to explore another alternate future that started from the same place and same impetuses, but ended up somewhere different.

That was actually intentional, believe it or not: he's been writing for a predominantly American site for a very long time, and in the US, "Autumn" is mostly a girls' name, not a season. So he's got a few words that have slipped meanings for him, as a consequence of the work he does.

I'm so glad you liked it.
