Who here has read Cabal, by Clive Barker, or seen the movie based on the book (which was titled Nightbreed)?

Comment amnesty is on, this is a fact-finding expedition.

I have read it, own it, and might have seen the movie.

I can hardly remember anything about it.

I saw Nightbreed! It was a long time ago, and I only vaguely remember it, but it was awesome. I actually played a one-shot GURPs game inspired by it.

Me on both counts, about a million years back. I remember just about nothing from them though.

I watched it. If I read the book I don't remember it.. I might have, but.. *shrug*

I definitely remember the movie though. :D It was some years ago, but I really enjoyed it, what with the undead/monster vibes and the underground city with all the, ah, unusual people. :3 (then again I'm pretty thoroughly xenokinked, so I tend to remember movies with protagonists who are 'monsters' because I find them awesome.)

Saw the movie first and liked it (I have the DVD somewhere). Got the book not long after and pretty much liked it, but then, I became a fan of Barker pretty quickly. And of late there is the "Cabal Cut" of the film (with restored footage) making the rounds.

If you can find it, there's The Nightbreed Chronicles, a companion book to the film with photos of the assorted members of the 'Breed, with little biographies written for them by Barker.

ooooh now I must seek out the Cabal cut, I didn't know there was one with some of the restored cuts back!

Haven't read it, pretty sure I haven't seen the movie either. If I have I've forgotten everything about it.

Saw the Cabal Cut, but not the original film. And then I read the book.

I watched the movie because of the Tom Smith song.

Read it and saw the film ages ago, back in college. Barely remember them.

Saw the "Cabal Cut," with all the grainy restored original footage, back in May at the annual Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, OR. It went on FOREVER.

Saw the original film because Shadow from my Rocky cast was the man in the Penance Chair. (As a rule, horror is not my genre.) My brother and I were the only people in the auditorium.

Read it, own it, and saw the movie. I even saw nightbreed in the theater, I loved cheesy horror so much.

Read it and saw the movie. Book was better, as the movie missed some of the flavor.

I experienced them in this order, if it's important: saw movie, read book, read Hellraiser/Nightbreed crossover comic. I found each to be better than expected, but I've been a Barker fan for some years now.

Nope. Can't handle horror of any kind. I am a coward and easily frightened/spooked. I still have nightmares after watching Pink Floyd's The Wall 30 years ago, and it isn't strictly horror. Couldn't even do simple cult classics like Nightmare on Elm St, Friday the 13th and the like. Sorry.

To be fair, The Wall gives lots of people nightmares, it's not a horror movie but the themes are horrific and they throw in such wacky animation that it lingers in the back of your mind for decades.

Doesn't keep me from loving the movie, but I do know others that feel as you do, it caused them nightmares.
