At last it is October, the month I spend the rest of the year yearning for. When it's October, everything is wonderful, even when it's not. When it's not October, I'm wishing that it were October again. There's a reason that Marnie Piper and the Cromwell witches are some of my favorite Disney (semi) icons.

After a weird two-day heatwave, we've settled into sweet fall, with foggy skies and color-changing leaves and everything. The Maine Coons are growing their winter coats, and thumping around the house like the tiny yeti that they secretly are. (Okay, local definition of "tiny." Thomas has hit the size where even I can't pretend that he's anything but massive. It's just that he still has kitten-face, and I fear what this says about his next growth spurt. He's going to eat me.)

The season's first treat has already been mentioned: Feed is still $1.99, and will be for the next two weeks. Yay! We're currently hovering in the Kindle 600s, which isn't bad for a book that's been out for two years. More treats will be forthcoming, once I know what they are. And of course, at the end of the month, When Will You Rise comes out from Subterranean, and that's sort of the ultimate treat. I cannot wait to see this book with my own eyes!

I'm hosting the SFWA Pacific Northwest Readings for this month, and I'm going to Disneyland with my fairy tale girls immediately afterward, so it's going to be a busy October, and that's just fine. I have a lot of work to do and a lot of experience at doing it, so I'm going to rock it.

Welcome to the month of my heart!

I saw skeleton lawn flamingos--well, black lawn flamingos with bones printed on them--in the grocery store the other day, and immediately thought of you. Perhaps this is the year I will finally grasp Halloween! It sounds like yours is going to be awesome.

I keep saying that I need to get "Gingerdead" cookie cutters. But I've got my competition scarecrow ready, my Halloween decorations are going up soon (hey, I have kids. Things get busy), and I've got busy busy stuff going on through the end of the month. I rather suspect November is going to come as a shock, but this is the best season of the year and it makes me so happy!

I LOVE October! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and fall is my favorite season.

Unfortunately, I feel conflicted over this because I can't stand winter, and October means that six months of ass-biting cold is imminent.

I'm glad you have so much awesome stuff planned, and I hope it all goes excellently!

It is the month of Halloween!!!!

I have already had Reese's pumpkins, I have found a pair of candy corn slipper socks, and I now have orange eyeshadow.

Which, strangely, looks awesome on me.

No turning of leaves down here in southern california, but it was finally cool enough for arm warmers this morning.

Can we get an extension on October this year? I could use a few extra weeks of the best month. We probably all could.

Would that there were teleporters. New England has some of the best October anywhere. The town is replete with pumpkins right now.

(Thomas is) going to eat me.

Either that, or you're going to wake up one morning, and there's going to be a burglar face-down on the floor, with Thomas sitting on top, gently nipping the back of the burglar's neck at any movement.

The leaves are turning where I live too. Quite suddenly, it seems... or maybe that's just because I'm a professional troglodyte and only see sun when forced to. It's pretty nonetheless. :D

Maine Coons might have qualified as cryptids once— people thought that the long striped tails were the result of crossbreeding between raccoons and domestic moggies. Though the striping on a raccoon’s tail is much more bold and defined. (Sadly, I didn’t have a camera handy the night that Yeti pawed at the glass on the back door, I turned on the light, and there was a raccoon right there for contrast...)

Does this love of October have anything to do with one Ms. Daye's name being, in fact, October? :)

Agreed though, October is an awesome month. Fall weather! Leaves turning! Kids (and awesome grownups) in Halloween costumes! It's fun!

I would buy the hell out of $1.99 ebook Feed if I didn't have it already. Must spread word to friends who've not read you yet!

Random: someone put out a bowl of candy corn at the yarn shop where I work and I thought of you.

Oh! i can put up Halloween decorations this weekend! I forgot. Another reason to avoid the insanity that will be the city. I'm decorating my house. I am buying kiddo cosutmes this weekend too. And sending out invites to Lily's "Witches Tea Party" where everyone gets a hat to decorate, a broom and a familiar. There will be a cauldron and bat shaped quesadillas. I'm not sure what else but it shall be perfect.

I do love October.

I ws beginning to feel native and feel like I should have declared the last two days earthquake weather. It was ridiculously hot. Watching the marine layer roll in yesterday was glorious.

May you have an excellent October! This is the time of year that I start thinking about baking pumpkin pie - a bit earlier than the Thanksgiving association many people have. My Dad's birthday is Halloween, and Mom would bake him a pumpkin pie to celebrate most years. That's about the only part of Dad's birthday celebrations I remember, the rest getting overshadowed by costume design and trick-or-treating.

Also, I fear the idea of Thomas hitting a growth spurt - if I recall correctly, the last time we saw you, he and Josh were nearly tied for weight.

I love October. It's the law, since my birthday is Hallowe'en.

IMO Hallowe'en is the perfect day to be born. My folks always explained my weirdnesses away because I was born on the 31st. Candy is given away and it's my birthday. It wasn't until I was about -6- that I realized Hallowe'en was a holiday and -that- was the reason for the candy. I had honestly thought, in my child world-view, that my birthday was the reason for the candy holiday. ^_^ ...Solipsism, at its finest.
