Current projects.

And now, the October installment of 'Seanan's current projects,' the post where I explain why I have no social life to speak of right now! (Says the woman who's about to go to Alabama for a weej.) Please note that the first three Toby books are currently off this list, as they have been fully turned-in to DAW; the next input I'm gonna have will come with the ARCs. Ah, progress. It smells like fear and uncontrollable twitching. Newsflesh and Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues are also currently off the list; they're under review with my agent, and are thus not being actively worked on.
The cut-tag is here to stay, because no matter what I do, it seems like this list just keeps on getting longer. But that's okay, because at least it means I'm never actively bored. Because, I have dinosaurs and zombies to keep me company.
***
The Mourning Edition.
Modern political/zombie horror, near-future setting, first-person protagonist. The sequel to Newsflesh, obviously, which, because I'm the one writing it, has turned into a trilogy. Alive or dead, the truth won't rest. Status: I'm just about a hundred pages into the book -- maybe a little bit more -- and things are gathering steam. Steam made of being AWESOME. It's really fun writing one of these and knowing that there's a sequel.
Late Eclipses of the Sun.
October Daye, book four. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Status: the first two passes are done, and the proofing/revision pool has had a chance to take huge, bloody chunks out of this book. Now I'm doing cleanup revisions and cosmetic surgery, without anesthetic. This part is the fun part. I'd say I'm about two-thirds of the way through the process; this book probably won't be on November's list, because it will be under agent review.
Discount Armageddon.
Incryptid, book one. Urban horror/modern dark fantasy, first-person protagonist, start of a multi-narrator series (generational). First narrator is Verity 'Very' Price, first setting is Manhattan/Jersey City. Status: several chapters in and getting a good feel for the world, which is going to serve me well in the narrative to come. Also, the series outline for the first two books is done-done-done. I feel special.
The Brightest Fell.
October Daye, book five. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Status: preparing to resume work on the book, which was about halfway finished when I got distracted by revising the first three. Only I think about half of what I have is going to wind up going out the nearest convenient window. Whee-ha!
Ashes of Honor.
October Daye, book six. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Status: outlines done, prepping to summarize before starting.
Upon A Star.
Young adult comedy/romance. Drama kids are awesome. So is amnesia. So are the adventures of Babylon Archer. Modern setting, first-person protagonist. Status: pending rewrites.
Deathless.
Dead Girl Diaries, book one. Modern urban fantasy/supernatural romance, first-person protagonist, two books per narrator. (First two are Deathless and Breathless, for Grace.) Status: poking in that vague and chipper 'I'll be writing you soon' fashion.
The Nativity of Chance.
High modern fantasy ranging across the country, through the wonderful lands of Oz, and through a lot of explosions. Pythagorean philosophy meets the works of L. Frank Baum, alchemy meets modern technology, and a pair of cuckoos meet their destiny. Status: researching.
Chasing St. Margaret.
Chick-lit romance/travelogue, modern setting, first-person protagonist, diary-style. Think Bridget Jones' Diary meets Lost In Translation meets A Twelfth Night. Actually, quite literally, on the last. My dear, sweet, utterly bewildered Margery. Status: finished, pending revisions and rewrites.
There are lots of other books floating around here -- some finished and slated to be worked on further, others pending getting started -- but these are the ones you're likely to hear the most about, at least currently. I'll probably update this list from time to time, as things move from 'project' to 'print', and new things take their places on the workshop floor.

Date: 2008-10-17 03:50 am (UTC)I am very much looking forward to reading Nativity of Chance. Very very much! The Doctrine of Ethos and Oz -- I have no idea how you are going to do it (other than what you've already told me) -- but I can't wait to find out!
