Reason for stopping: time for Leverage.

Music: random shuffle, lots of Christian Kane.

So this is actually a weekend word count, rather than a day: I was in Portland this weekend, because reasons, and I spent a lot of my free time sitting in my hotel room, writing. But not as much as I would have spent if I'd actually been at home, which is why it's only 8k for the weekend. Regardless, I've made some good progress, and I'm up through the end of chapter ten, and that's a good thing.

I have a lot of big plot pieces that need to fit into this book, including a major antagonist, a secondary antagonist who's not like anything I've dealt with before, and some pretty big pay offs. So it's a juggling act here in the first draft, and I am crazy grateful for the tireless efforts of my Machete Squad, without whom I would literally be lost. SO VERY LOST.

Mind you, if I keep dropping chunks like this on their heads, I may wind up lost anyway, or at least messily murdered, but until then, I shall carry gleefully on.

Rock on, Seanan!

Portland = bliss! We were "this" close to moving there once upon a time, but didn't for various too-boring-to-recount-today reasons. But gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous - am jealous you got to go up there and visit Powells - yum! Do you know Cherie Priest, who I think (am actually, sort of, guessing) lives in that general area? (Because all writers within any given 100 square miles radius know one another, right? Yeah, well ... but still ...) Love her steampunk-y, vampire-y writing, and her style sort of reminds me of yours. 8-)

Chimes at Midnight sounds wonderfully, deliciously complicated. Will look forward to reading when it comes out, and meanwhile will get back to catching up to that point (wow, that was a really complicated set of tenses, wasn't it ... oops). Yay for machete squads doing their thing (I have one of those too in the form of my long-suffering, unpaid, unbylined husband, sigh ...), and for long BART commutes that make for excellent uninterrupted reading time. Woot!

Meanwhile, eversoglad to hear you're home safe (unless the cats go wild and completely lose track of who has those thumby-things that are so helpful in opening cans of tuna, in which case, you might remind them of same ...). Do please try to avoid lost/messily murdered/etc. will you? Will tempt you w offers of clafouti, the cats w fishy-smelling treats, to continue on (gleefully, as really is best) instead. 8-)

First of all, I love reading your word count posts. Such a great idea for accountability. I do have one question, though. How does one obtain a Machete Squad? I have a hard time with getting feedback from just one person. :)

It took me literally years, and I found most of them through my long, long tenure as a fanfic writer.

Why was Thomas sulking? So soon after his birthday, too. He's not going through his brooding early 20's, is he?
