Beware the Ides of March! Beware the March 2012 current projects post, in which I tell you what I'm working on, and you finally understand why I don't have time for tea. To quote myself, being too harried to say something new: "These posts are labeled with the month and year, in case somebody eventually gets the crazy urge to timeline my work cycles (it'll probably be me). Behold the proof that I don't actually sleep; I just whimper and keep writing."

Please note that all books currently in print are off the list, as are those that have been turned in but not yet printed (Blackout, Ashes of Honor). The cut-tag is here to stay, because no matter what I do, it seems like this list just keeps on getting longer—although this month, thanks to a vast spate of "THE END," it actually got shorter. It'll grow again soon. But that's okay, because at least it means I'm never actively bored. I have horror movies and terrible things from the swamp to keep me company.

***

Parasitology.
Forced Evolutions, book one. Science fiction/medical thriller, near-future setting, first-person protagonist. Sally "Sal" Mitchell is having a lousy day. Month. Year. Life. The first book in the new Mira Grant duology. Status: 80,000 words in, 65,000 words to go, give or take a chapter.

The Chimes at Midnight.
Toby Daye, book seven. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. I can't say much about this book yet, but the file is set up, and I've started on chapter one.

Echo.
Echo, book one. YA science fiction about parallel universes. Sort of Fringe meets The OC. With mathematicians and science, because I'm still me. Status: in outlines, getting ready to write the sample chapters.

Sit, Stay, I Hate You.
Coyote Girls, book two. Young adult horror/paranormal romance, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Having survived the events of Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues, Clady would really like it if her life would settle down and get, y'know, easy for a little while. Clady is not going to be terribly happy with me, either. Status: about halfway through chapter one, stalled while I work on other things.

The Nativity of Chance.
High modern fantasy ranging across the country, through the wonderful lands of Oz, and through a lot of explosions. Pythagorean philosophy meets the works of L. Frank Baum, alchemy meets modern technology, and a pair of cuckoos meet their destiny. Status: researching.

Pretty Poison Apples.
The sequel to Nativity of Chance, and that seasonal monarchs book I've been threatening to write forever. Stop looking at me like that. Status: researching.

How Green This Land, How Blue This Sea.
The 2013 Newsflesh-universe novella. Details to come; animal husbandry in Australia is involved.

There are lots of other books floating around here—some finished and slated to be worked on further, others pending getting started—but these are the ones you're likely to hear the most about, at least currently. I'll update this list from time to time, as things move from "project" to "print" and new things take their places on the workshop floor.

Is "Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues" still available anywhere? I'm not having any luck finding it at any of my usual sources.

I believe that Lycanthropy is not on this list because it's not being worked on, not because it's been published. Similarly, Toby Daye, book six is not on this list, but it's not available for purchase yet.

I'm not certain, but I don't think the Coyote Girls series has been sold yet. At the very least, I don't remember a post full of joy and bouncing on that subject showing up here. On the other hand, I have a memory like...like...like a thingamajig.

It hasn't been published yet, and I believe it has been sent to The Agent to begin the process. :)

Please see my Bibliography page (http://seananmcguire.com/other.php) for all publications, past, present, and confirmed future. At times things will appear on this list which are related to finished but unsold material.

"...animal husbandry in Australia is involved."

Zombie kangaroos? o_O. No, wait, they're not mammals. Reservoir species on a grand scale? H'mm. Mind, I suppose with the sheep:people ratio being what it is, they have a problem even without kangaroos.

Kangaroos are mammals, just not placental ones. So they're a lot more distant from us on the great tree of life than most other mammals, but still closer than reptiles and birds.

H'mmm. I'd never thought about it like that - I was thinking about it from the angle that most zoonoses that have marsupials as a vector are parasitic, bacterial or as a reservoir only. To my awareness of course - I'm quite willing to be schooled if I'm massively wrong on that!

Kinda a project thing but not so much a writing thing, but what is the status in terms of how many Wicked Girls shirts are still to be mailed out?

I e-mailed Deborah (I assume, the e-mail address was the merch one at gmail from which all previous shirt-related correspondance had occured) a few days ago inquiring about the status of the ones I ordered and haven't heard back from her yet.

From: [identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com
About sixty remain to be mailed; I'm working on it as fast as I can. There was about a ten day break while I was contagious, since "have a shirt...AND THE PLAGUE" seemed rude, especially as it's already "have a shirt and half a cat."

I apologize if you've addressed this elsewhere, but: Nativity of Chance seems to have been in researching status for as long as I can remember. Any chance at all of it ever moving along to the next stage? I'm kinda looking forward to it.

Questions like this make me take unsold works off the list. Because sadly, it doesn't move forward until I get breathing room or somebody buys it. But these lists are meant to track for me, which is why it's there at all.

Chasing St Margaret is off the list. Is this because it's in edits (in the sense of 'if you ever have free time again, you might think about editing the unsold draft, maybe'), or is this because something is happening with it, or has it been taken off the table in some way? Or is this a question to which the only likely reply is 'oh, look, a bunny'?

'Cause I'm not gonna lie, I will be completely overjoyed if something is happening with CStM. But I'm not holding my breath about it. You're already managing the workload of about three people, I get that you haven't actually figured out the mechanics of stopping time yet (have you? Because that might explain a lot....).

So yeah, just curious.

(Also, reading Discount Armageddon and loving every minute of it, just so you know.)

If there were any information, it would be given. Asking why something is off the list when there is no information given will just get you looked at blankly.

*looks at you blankly*
