seanan_mcguire: (one salt sea)

Twenty-five days. That's how long we have between here and One Salt Sea. A dollar for each of those days would buy me a bucket of chicken from KFC, or two new paperbacks (with tax), or two tickets to a matinee, if someone else bought the popcorn. An hour for each of those days would give me time to take a nice long nap.

Twenty-five days.

I'm still amazed that this book is something real, that it's about to be something people can buy and have for their very own. I'm still sort of going "but but but the first one just came out, how can we already be on book five?" I'm writing book six. I'm dreaming book eight. And I'm scared as hell of the fact that book five is about to be on shelves.

I think milestones are always big and hard and scary. But this one is just weird. I am amazed and aghast and a little bit afraid of what comes next.

For Late Eclipses, I provided lists of facts and answered questions to ease people toward for release. What should I do this time? Suggestions welcome.

ETA: Guys, I can't, and won't, do drabbles. Not only are they very brain-intensive (and wouldn't you rather have book six?), but the effort of keeping them from being full of spoilers would explode my head. I've tried to indicate nicely that this isn't an option, and now I'm just saying it.

*actually does notice the contrast of white on white*

*ponders* Drabbles about incidental characters from books 1-4 that you never expect to show up again?

Dissertations about the songs that make up the "playlist" of this book, and why you chose them?

Lolfaeries. No one ever went wrong making Lolfaeries. Provided the faeries in question never see them, of course....

No.

Honey, you KNOW how hard it is for me to do graphics, especially at work. If I try to commit to a graphic a day, no one's getting anything.

There's a macro generator.

Or, you know, I can do them.

The drabbles are a lovely idea, but do you're assuming that anyone alive is gone forever.

From: [identity profile] autographedcat.livejournal.com
Oh, I assume nothing. :) That's why I phrased it as I did. You could certainly do drabbles with minor characters you *do* expect to see again, too. :)

I'd say a fake spoiler contest, but the way your stories work, even if people are trying to be crazy and far-fetched they might hit upon the truth.

Can't wait to read the next installment... I've been trying to ignore the fact that it's coming out soon--you know, the watched pot and all that.

And I meant "what do people want from ME," not "what do people want to do to win an ARC."

Drabbles about the main characters . Or scenes that you haven’t been able to put in the books because of pacing. Or stuff that happens between books.
Or facts and answers again, I remember enjoying them.

YAYS! And I think you need a virtual hug because of how amazing you are. so *hug*

As for ideas, um.. I like the drabble idea (just in general drabbles about any of the characters... not particularly that they are gone forever) But honestly, I'd be happy with anything (or even nothing as long as I can get a my own copy of One Salt Sea.) Anything else that you decide to provide would just be, as the saying goes, icing on the cake. ^_^

On a side note, Tybalt LOLcats would be hilarious and if someone does make them, be sure to post a link, yes?

Once per day you should set aside a can of Diet Dr. Pepper and drink it in honor of the coming of One Salt Sea.

I propose you pick one day to pet cats and get a little more sleep than usual.

On a less serious note:

Anti-spoilers - things that not only do not happen, but are utterly silly and do not fit with the genre.
Characters' favorite drinks, and why.

I kind of like the favorite drinks thing. It could be broadened to 'character favorites' -- Tybalt's favorite breed of cat, Toby's preferred vacation spot, what Luna's favorite color of roses are, etc.

Could be light hearted and entertaining. :)

As someone whose world-building question got answered last time, i'm all over doing it again.

OR!

How about a map that gets filled in as we get closer, delineating the various duchies/real estate in relation to one another?

Date: 2011-09-10 04:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com
Oh, that's never ever going to happen, ever. I try very hard not to lock myself into geographical lines until I have to; if I made a map, I would have to live with it. That's not an option until the series is ending.

What to do

or two tickets to a matinee

Or here in Wilsonville, OR at the Regal that's 5 tickets to $5 movie night; except 3D shows which are $7.50.

Just sayin'. ;)

It doesn't have the uber-comfy deep seats, but it's by no means a dive theatre either.

There's also a $2 for a small bag of popcorn special on Tuesdays as well.

Seanan: I wanted to warn you that BN.com (Barnes & Noble) are once again mailing out pre-orders early. I have a copy of "One Salt Sea" in my hands. While that makes me very happy, it also makes me very sad, because it should not be in my hands. I don't know if Amazon did the same thing.

I won't read the book until its official release day. I'll put the book in a safe place, perhaps in a Ziploc bag to keep out moisture and dust.

Again, happy but very sad. And angry. I thought you should know. I don't know if there's a way to contact BN's warehouse and plead with them to stop sending out pre-ordered books before the release dates. I hope this doesn't happen with my pre-order Cat's new Prester John book, or I'm going to be really upset with BN, despite all the discounts and free shipping they give me.

:(

ETA: I don't remember if you said that you hate when people tell you about getting books early, and if you did say that, I'm sorry! :( But this is the second time BN has done this, and I don't know if you know, so... I don't know. Again, I am super sorry if I made you upset...
