Words: 4,226.
Total words: 146,291.
Estimated words remaining: 4,000.
Reason for stopping: I am sick even unto death.
Music: really, really LOUD rock and roll.
Cats: Alice, flat on the lower tier of the cat tree; Lilly, on the windowsill; Thomas, on the top level of the cat tree.

As expected, I did not finish the book today. Also as expected, the book is going to run a little over my first draft estimate, putting us, oh, probably closer to 155,000 than 150,000 words. That's fine. Soon, I will finish this draft, process my pending edits, and ship the whole messy thing off to the patient Machete Squad for hacking into bits.

I am truly and genuinely almost done with my first series as Mira Grant. I am getting ready to write "THE END" on this huge, sprawling, amazing story. I am delighted. I am terrified.

I am also sick even unto death, so I'm going to go sleep now.

I finished Deadline last night. OMG. OMFG. I hate blood and gore, and I love you so much, and the contradiction doesn't even bother me anymore. I will write a review sometime this weekend, I hope, and try to do it justice.

If you think we have the same cold, you may want to go to the doctor, because mine was bacterial and I'm on four kinds of antibiotics.

And I'm reading Deadline, because spontaneous amplification is love.

Write, Seanan, Write!

I just finished Deadline...and you are a cruel, cruel woman to leave it THERE and not have Blackout ready for me to read yet!

also, now that I have actually read your post...please get well soon - it's miserable being sick, and now that the SUN has returned, it's not fair to be stuck feeling miserable.

Even if Blackout were done and edited, you wouldn't be able to read it until next year! This way, no one else can read it either.

All right, I'm just going to be deleting every thirtieth word, then. We'll see how that works out.

*passes you tea and Benedryl* My partner and I also have The Sick. I am going to wait an hour or two and see how I feel before I decide to call out or not.

Yay, book!

You can do it!

I work at a Barnes and Noble, and recommend this series to EVERYONE; it's one of my favorite things I've read, period, not just my favorite "zombie apocalypse plus idiots poking things with sticks" genre book.

You are my favorite author ever, and I cannot wait to read Blackout.

*gentle hug*

Sleep well, and get better. The machetes are patient.

(In case you've been contemplating vectors, a data point that might interest you: Another friend of mine who went to Wiscon is also sick.)

(And I'm a little surprised that no one has yet reacted to "my first series as Mira Grant" with "What's the next one going to be?" :) )

Get well soon.

(In unimportant things that can wait until you are not Sick Unto Death, Save That Dying Would Take Too Much Effort...did you ever explain why you picked Mira Grant for your nom de horror*? I think I've found the reason for "Grant," if only by luck, but "Mira" eludes me.)

Good lord. No wonder you're so prolific. On a GOOD day, I can put in a little over 2000 words. Here you're sick unto death (but not going to die anytime soon!), and you put in 4k.

And you have a day job, cats to take care of, and public transportation to wrangle. Truly, I am in awe.

I'm more than halfway through Deadline now and enjoying it immensely, so thankyou for writing another excellent book. One thing I do like about the books is that I can never be certain who is going to live, I hate reading a favourite character's death, but at the same time I like the feeling of not knowing who is going to live or die. I know it sounds weird. Thanks again.

Maybe you can clear something up for me: a friend of mine says the zombies in Newsflesh aren't dead and rotting, but I've read what seems like evidence that they are. So are they alive or are they the walking dead?

Date: 2011-06-13 02:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com
They're alive, but they often have severe injuries and secondary infections, including gangrene. So some of them are rotting despite being among the living.
