So the "Wicked Girls" party game—in which I let people suggest fictional girls, and wrote them apocryphal verses to the tune of "Wicked Girls"—is finally finished. I didn't write every request, but wow did I write a lot of them! You can view all the verses by clicking the link to the post; the girls involved, with source material, were...

  • Belle, Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

  • Atalanta, Greek mythology.

  • Glinda and Elphaba, Wicked.

  • Medea, Greek mythology.

  • October Daye, Rosemary and Rue.

  • Cassie Hack, Hack/Slash.

  • Morgana le Fey, Arthurian mythology.

  • Beverly Marsh, IT.

  • Candy Smith-Foster, Emergence.

  • Janet, Pamela Dean's Tam Lin.

  • Sarah, Labyrinth.

  • Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars.

  • Ace (Dorothy McShane), Doctor Who.

  • Kitty "Shadowcat" Pryde, Marvel comics.

  • Talia, The Stepsister Scheme.

  • River Tam, Firefly.

  • Wendy Watson, The Middleman.

  • Snow White and Rose Red, Fables.

  • Virginia, The 10th Kingdom.

  • Delirium, The Sandman.

  • Jo Lupo, Eureka.

  • September, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland.

  • Sorrow, The Orphan's Tales.

...that's a lot more than I thought it was. Um. Wow. Anyway, done now; thanks to everyone who played, whether I met your request or not.

My question is when/where can I find a copy of Wicked Girls to put on my Ipod? It needs to be a road trip song and Pennsic is coming. :)

Thanks - but that lets me hear it on my computer (have been listening to it for a week or so) but I don't think I can download it from there

Right click, "save link as" makes us happy wicked girls indeed.

I'm pretty sure that if you right-click the link, it should give you a "save as" option. There's no official recorded version, as yet.

Also, you can buy the concert recording from DucKon (benefiting the Filk Fund). Also also, there are websites that turn YouTube videos into MP3s, so you could MP3 the version from DucKon that way.

What she said. Right click the link. In IE, it will have a 'save target as...' option and in Firefox the option is 'save link as...'. It will bring up a dialog you can use to save it to your computer and then import into whatever music program you use.

Given enough time (and energy, of course), this song could turn into another Young Man Mulligan.

No, 'cause these are, for the most part, totally apocryphal—their girls aren't eligible, and wouldn't want to be.

so the next question - can you please identify the sources of the girls in the original version of the song?

Yes some of the lost girls are obvious, Alice, Dorothy, Wendy, Lucy and Susan are easy.

But who are Mandy, Mia, Deborah, Kate, Mary and Kaia?

The bridge is reserved for real people. Mandy, Mia, Deborah, Kate, Mary, and Kaia are friends of mine. Mia is the one who made the original "Wicked Girls" pendant. Deborah is the one who requested I write the song.

I highly recommend checking my website FAQs for really specific questions like this. You'd be surprised how many of them have already been answered. :)

I actually looked at the FAQ (http://seananmcguire.com/musicfaq.php) - which explained who Jane was but I didn't see anything about the other names. But then I might have missed it.
