I live! I write, I cry, I write again!
The move, its associated complications, and my own unavoidable commitments continue to conspire to keep me hopping, hence my current scarceness: I promise I'm not dead, and am still reasonably active on Twitter, even if I'm not managing to keep up with my blog. I'm really hoping that will change soon. I'm sliding toward normalcy one day at a time, I swear. Please let me swearing to something true.
Ahem. But! The disclaimer is not the reason I finally managed to break my silence. No, it's this: the first-ever Quentin-narrated story has been released today! "Full of Briars" is available now from an e-book retailer near you. (US-only at this time. I'm really sorry about that. I don't control the foreign rights, and unlike a story I've released myself, for free, this one I got paid for, and that means the publisher calls the shots.) I am super excited about it, both because a) this fills in a gap that's always bothered me, between Chimes at Midnight and The Winter Long, and b) this is the first time DAW has directly commissioned an e-original from me. IMAGINE HOW MUCH TOBY I COULD WRITE IF THIS IS SUCCESSFUL. The mind boggles, the fingers weep, and the heart rejoices.
A steal at only two dollars, please consider picking up "Full of Briars," if you haven't already, and find out what happened when we weren't looking.
This will serve as your discussion post: please be aware that there will almost certainly be spoilers in the comments.

Date: 2016-08-03 05:37 am (UTC)But Seanan, thank you again for such a wonderful read. This was everything I could have hoped for and more, up to and including Toby swearing around the High King and Queen. :D

Date: 2016-08-03 02:51 pm (UTC)1) Squee! I love Quentin POV!
2) Hahaha, Tim Hortons may be a Canadian institution because we all deserve to be institutionalized. The donuts are better than Krispy Kreme, or Dunkin Donuts, but that's not saying much.
Most of the "Timmies!" people I know do it for the coffee, and it's less that the coffee is spectacular and more that it's unpretentious notStartbucks and a national dish.
Also, If our universe had words like Game of Thrones universe, ours would be "Double double"
3) Quentin/Dean - adorbs, but why do I fear that this possible pairing is setting up for disaster/heartbreak/war/pathos in the future? They both have too many other obligations.

Date: 2016-08-03 05:09 pm (UTC)I cackled for a good five minutes, and even called my parents re: the Tim Horton's joke. Savages, indeed. No civilized area would be without a Timmies. Although, they were better before they started sending frozen doughnuts and baked goods to "standardize" their stores.
I adore how much you acknowledge Canada, its culture, and geography in your books.

Date: 2016-08-03 06:54 pm (UTC)Also, as many others have said, Raj draping himself over Quentin in a "MY Daoine Sidhe" sort of way was magically delicious. I like that Raj has grown enough since we first met him to feel comfortable telling Tybalt to bugger off when he feels strongly about a subject. Nice to see Toby rubbing off on him.
Second, you've once again managed to drive my wife nuts, only with a double helping this time. She thoroughly despises this time of year, as well as the time around March/April. For some strange reason, I can't stop talking about your books for about a month when those times roll around...Weird, huh? Hopefully, once I convert her to the Tao of Toby and the Path of Price, she'll stop being grumpy and start being excited like a reasonable person.

Date: 2016-08-03 10:55 pm (UTC)It would be great to see the oz series have something like this too. After Toby the oz series is your work that I personally have enjoyed the most.

Date: 2016-08-04 12:50 am (UTC)Then, I got to the airport hotel where I'd been sent for the night with a vague promise of a flight out today, and I discovered there was a new Toby story to purchase! (By the way, iTunes let me purchase it from the Netherlands. This may be because I live in the US.) As my journey home stretched well into today, it was great to have another Toby story to read along the way.
I especially enjoyed the last scene with Quentin and Dean. I was grinning from ear to ear as I read it, and I think I literally laughed out loud a few times, even though I was sitting on an airplane, and that wasn't very polite of me.
