INDEXING: REFLECTIONS is finished today!

If you've been following the serial from the start, episode #12, "Never After," is available today! If you've been waiting for the whole story to drop, then you're in luck, because the serial is complete and the full season is available for purchase now, in either e-book or physical form!

This is your talkpost and discussion zone for the full serial, including episode #12. There will be spoilers in the comments here. As always on talkposts, I have partial comment amnesty, and will not be responding to everything.

"Never After" takes us home. Thank you for making this journey with me.

Once upon a time...

We just started reading this out loud to our daughter (17) as her bedtime story. She loved the first one, and is looking forward to re-visiting the characters.

Augh! My Kindle is not updating. I want my story! I hope it's just a regional thing, but I am on tenterhooks here, worrying about Henry et al.

[identity profile] jenfullmoon.livejournal.com 2016-01-13 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I kept checking and rechecking half the day. Of course it finally loaded after my lunch hour....

For those of us without Kindle compatible devices, will this eventually be available in other formats? I would really like to read it.

I should add a couple of things that I found particularly neat:

Henry's brother and how his gender identification changed the narrative.

True love's kiss means all love, not just the traditional fairytale prince kisses sleeping girl. Henry kissed Jeff, Jeff kissed Henry, Henry kissed Sloane (and I was really hoping for that one), and all of them worked because there was true love in the kiss. That's such a wonderful spin on tradition.

I would love to find out what happens next, especially between Sloane and Henry, some day when the mood strikes .

[identity profile] falcon21893.livejournal.com 2016-01-12 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I also LOVED those twists on the "true love's kiss"

It was one of my favorite moments of the Maleficent movie, and so when Henry climbed up on the mattresses I got really excited...

[identity profile] bree-ramsey314.livejournal.com 2016-01-12 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohh, very good point about true love, and one I shared as I read it. It reminded me of Maleficent (such an AWESOME film). A friend's love can be just as true as that of a handsome prince, and I was so thrilled when Henry realized that.

I also LOVED that the story recognized that Gerry was always male. I do hope Henry will share that with her brother, not that he needs the affirmation.

Loved it so much I am bursting with joy! I really didn't have a clue how you were going to tie this up, but in hindsight the solution has really been foreshadowed since the first season. It has always been about Henry coming to terms with her story and learning to accept it, not run away from it. That doesn't mean surrendering to it completely, but rather understanding that it's a part of her, and she can shape even as it shapes her. It's like a marriage in a way; both partners have to accept that the union will change them if it's going to work.

Indexing was fantastic, Indexing: Reflections was even better. We learned so much more about the way the narrative works, and about the characters. I also can't help but notice that there are still quite a few open threads, so here is my pitch to whomever may have power over such things: please let there be a Season Three!

As always, thank you, Seanan. Your imagination, skill and talent may be rivaled by many, but to this humble reader you are eclipsed by none. You are the proverbial Pearl of Great Price, and I will be pinching my pennies so I can possess all of you.

That last bit didn't sound creepy ... right?

[identity profile] falcon21893.livejournal.com 2016-01-12 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to try to say something about the story but you've expressed similar thoughts to mine, and much more eloquently than I probably would have.

So I'll just say I agree, and add that this was such a satisfying ending. I loved it.

Will be buying shortly. I am amused that you posted this today and I was wondering if you had seen the Google Doodle (http://www.google.com/doodles/charles-perraults-388th-birthday)

[identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com 2016-01-12 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Much as I'd love the credit, this was not self-published, and as such, I had absolutely no input on release day.

[identity profile] blueeowyn.livejournal.com 2016-01-13 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
More that the timing amused me, I figured you didn't have that sort of control (and may not have known that Google was doing the doodle). When I saw the doodle, I thought of you then later I saw the post.

Does it help you for this sort of project if people buy in the first week vs. pairing it with another purchase a little later?

[identity profile] leah freedman (from livejournal.com) 2016-01-12 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That was just perfect. I think this is my favorite series ever. I can't wait to re-read it from the beginning.

[identity profile] h-mary.livejournal.com 2016-01-13 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! I was solo good! Thank you. I bought the print version too. Also the next October Daye is available for Kindle Pre-order. :)

[identity profile] h-mary.livejournal.com 2016-01-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I meant "so" not "solo". Stupid spell check. Anyways, the ending was beautiful and made me so happy. Thank you again for another beautiful story.

I enjoyed it so much. Indexing Reflections was even better than Indexing and that's an achievement. If you decide to do do a third, sign me up! I want to know how Sloane is going to deal with the fact that Henry loves her! I'm still snorting over Snow bitch!

Glad your trip was fun!

[identity profile] lylassandra.livejournal.com 2016-01-13 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH omg

Please let there be a season 3, I need to know what Henry's newer deeper connection to the story means! And how Sloane is coping and if they managed to change her any! And were all those deer showing up at Gerry's school back in the day just Birdie or is there more to his story?

Seriously though, I loved loved loved it. Thank you so much.

[identity profile] kittycat22.livejournal.com 2016-01-13 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
This was SO fantastic; I loved the whole thing. I'll have to find some time to curl up and re-read both INDEXING and INDEXING: REFLECTIONS because I am sure I missed all sorts of things. I hope there is a S3- It seemed to me you left room for it, provided there is demand for it and, of course, you want to return to this world.

I loved that Henry kissed Sloane to wakefulness. I'm very hopeful that Andy is still alive and with us! I also loved the teamwork he and Henry had in this section, totally overcoming her new body. Basically everything was fantastic. Thank you thank you thank you

*sees this post, goes immediately to preferred online bookstore and YOINKS* Boooooooooooook.

*looks at crammed bookshelf* Dammit. Your books will need a shelf of their own at this rate -- such a tragedy! *dramatic swooning*

I finally had a chance to finish! Thank you, Seanan for this wonderful story. I can only hope that Amazon/Kindle Serial/47North will enable my desire for a 3rd season. I love these characters so much.

[identity profile] tanac.livejournal.com 2016-01-13 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
How satisfying! I enjoyed reading this last episode so much. Can't wait to do a full re-read now that it's all in one place. Thank you. (And add me to the chorus for season three...)

[identity profile] lianneb.livejournal.com 2016-01-14 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought the collected volume yesterday (I do wish they would sell kindle serials to Canadians!), and the audiobook as well. I read the first book by listening to the audiobook, and you hit the jackpot with Mary Robinette Kowal as the reader. She was brilliant (and made my love for Sloane even stronger).

[identity profile] juliael.livejournal.com 2016-01-15 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
I will just say wow. Reflections was quite the roller coaster in places and I was really worried how you were going to resolve everything. But all is right in Henry's world (or as close as it can be considering). I loved meeting the new characters this time around and getting better insight on the other side characters. Starting first series I would never expect Sloane to be one of my favorites -- midway through Reflections I grinned gleefully and said "yep, that's my girl!" Like others I'd love to see what happens next, especially Henry & Sloane's changed friendship.

[identity profile] kerithwyn.livejournal.com 2016-01-15 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I must believe this was a deliberate reference:

Only talk to me, tell me what you want, let me spin you a story you can be proud of, and the world is yours.
-- Indexing: Reflections p.303

Jareth, from Labyrinth: I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave.

Thank you for taking us on this journey with you.

I wanted to thank you for writing Henry borrowing the other Snow White's body like you did. The way similar plot elements are written often bothers me, since very few people seem to stop and think that the temporary "host body" is more than just a jacket you throw on. I really appreciated your way of writing it.

[identity profile] peneli.livejournal.com 2016-01-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Just got to read it today and I quite liked how you pulled it all together. Now to get the audiobook and listen to the whole thing. :)

Indexing 3

[identity profile] leah freedman (from livejournal.com) 2016-10-20 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Will there be another indexing????
