Fifty days to book release: are you ready to RAGNAROK?

...I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'd promise never to do it again, but let's face it, you're going to be hearing this joke a lot over the next several months, frequently from me. So, uh, look, a punny bunny! Anyway:

As of today, we are fifty days from the release of Half-Off Ragnarok, the third book in the InCryptid series, and the first book narrated by Verity's older brother, Alexander Price. It's a little weird for me, since—like Verity before him—Alex gets to narrate two books on his first outing, and I've already finished the second. For me, he's an established protagonist with two complete adventures under his belt, and for you, he's the new kid on the block, taking over from someone many of you have already learned to love. So that's weird. And I'm still a little stunned that I get to write these books in the first place. Like, I can't even articulate how amazing this has been for me.

So where are we right now? Well, I'm gearing up for some more giveaways, some of which will be totally effort-free (RNG 4 LYFE), some of which will require a little more work (fan artists, start your engines). I'm editing book four, and prepping for book five, which is the last on my current contract (subtext: please, please, if you can, if you enjoy this series, buy it, so I can keep going). I'm getting ready for book launch, and looking in awe at the upcoming UK release of book one, and yeah. It's all amazing.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do as a pre-release countdown this time (or whether I'm going to do one at all). Suggestions are totally welcome! And of course, we'll have another new short story going up on the website around the time the book comes out, featuring another Johnny and Fran adventure. We're coming to the end of their time as the focus of our historical narratives. I'm excited to be moving on Alice and Thomas, one of my all time OTPs, but I'm going to miss Johnny and Fran.

Thank you all, so much. Thank you for allowing me to tell these stories. Thank you for being here. And thank you for buying my books. This was a series that had a very narrow market when it started, and you bought enough copies to make DAW see that it had an audience, and that I should get to continue. Soon, we'll break through the candy shell and expose the true darkness of what people keep assuming is my fluffiest universe. Soon.

I can't wait.

I fell in love with Verity in the first couple of pages of "Discount Armageddon" and have read both that and "Midnight Blue-Light Special" several times already ... and I am impatiently awaiting Alex's first book. I haven't yet forced anyone to buy your books, but it is close :) If I have to in order to keep you writing them, I will.

I'm going to need more shelf space, aren't I? AKA, "Yay, more Incryptid!"

[identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com 2014-01-15 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Eventually!

[identity profile] danaoshee.livejournal.com 2014-01-13 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep lending out Discount Armageddon, like crack. "here, you haven't read any Seanan? So, ah...ridiculous talking mice that are actually heartbreaking. Seriously. READ THIS BOOK."

(Oh, and I had a great Feed compliment for you: I lent it out to a friend of a friend, and got a text two days later: "you made (name) cry". She'd already finished it.)

This is pretty much how I got my sister hooked. "Next time you have had a hard day, and really need to chill and read something excellent and laugh until your abs ache* read this book!" I think she was reading it before the end of the day. And after that, everything else.

* Context: my sister is a professional aerialist, so that's a lot of laughing.

I want a party too! Mel and I want to coordinate and bring the girls this time. And T Rex who was in her belly last time we saw you!

By the bye, are you aware of/have you read Keith R.A. DeCandido's Ragnarok 'n' Roll? I think you'd like it a lot.

I have not, thanks for the tip.

Fluffy? Fluffy? Have they been reading the Johnny and Fran short stories? Oh my lord.

[identity profile] thedragonweaver.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was thinking that any universe that has a group of "kill 'em all; God doesn't need to sort them out because they're all going to hell" folk isn't exactly fluffy bunny territory, and that's before you get to the Apraxis wasps and the vast majority of the cuckoo race.

Fangirl squees aside, I can't wait. I hope my habit of combining a Kindle purchase with an audiobook purchase helps the bottom line.

How could anyone who read 'We Both Go Down Together' possibly apply 'fluffy' to this universe?

[identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com 2014-01-15 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a mystery.

Yay more Incrypid!

Seriously, I wasn't sold on the premise with the first one, but I pretty much buy anything you write because reasons. And well, Incrypid was totally worth it.

Is there going to be an simultaneous US and international release of your books ? otherwise I will end up buying your works in the US edition instead of the UK.

( Until you pop over in August when I will buy them and ask nicely for a signature ).

[identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com 2014-01-16 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Eventually! But first, they have to catch up. So I think the goal is to be simultaneous with book four, but BAM BAM BAM with the first three.

SQUEE! Countdown time! I've already had this on pre-order for awhile. I do a monthly check of my short-list of favorite authors on Amazon so I can add any newly available pre-orders. Gotta grease those skids, ya know. And even if I wasn't a rabid fan, my Aeslin colony would find some way to buy anything to do with the Price family themselves.

[identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com 2014-01-16 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, yay.

[identity profile] tikiera.livejournal.com 2014-01-13 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Does buying the audiobook help? I normally buy a ebook, a print book, an an audiobook for the Incryptid series, spaced out over a few months, but if the ebook and the physical book combined are more important than ebook and audiobook (print for this one is my least necessary as it's book 3 and no longer lend bait - if they liked the first two books, by book three they should be buying the book themselves to help keep the author able to write the series) I will buy those first.

[identity profile] vixyish.livejournal.com 2014-01-13 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
As I understand it, buying any format helps-- buy what works best for you! :)

I have a suggestion for fan challenges:

Explain or show in photos how your supposedly normal pet Fluffy is really a Cryptid. Document your suspicions or proof to the best of your ability.

The misunderstanding is somewhat understandable. Some people mistake fuzzy (Hail the fuzziness!) as fluffy.

And then somebody gets their head torn off or is carried off by deadly apex predators. And the fluffy thinkers go "Buh?' while the rest of us nod
and say "Just as I suspected."

I am bouncing in my seat, waiting for this next book to come out! Sometimes it is absolutely /fantastic/ to get someone else's voice narrating the story and this sounds like a great one to listen to. XD We've already heard a little bit of Alex's voice and to have him narrating it .... it's going to be great! Whee and onto fantastic books.

Soon, we'll break through the candy shell and expose the true darkness of what people keep assuming is my fluffiest universe. Soon.

Given some of the competition, I don't know that calling any of your projects as 'the fluffiest' is at all reassuring as to actual fluff.

Regardless of their Medium, when an artist enjoys themselves in the creation of their work, it shows. Part of the reason your novels are so successful is that you're loving telling the stories. So, keep at it. ;} (And I'll keep buying them)

Some art challenges would be nice.

"Fluffiest?" 0_o I guess compared to Newsflesh, but that's still not the word I woulda used.

Anyways--BRB, making Ragnarok memes...

ETA: Feel free not to count this towards your "fan art" giveaway whatsit. When I saw the post title I just HADTA.
