VELVETEEN VS. THE MULTIVERSE available now in ebook!

People of Earth! If you have been waiting for the ebook release of Velveteen vs. The Multiverse, wait no longer! Finally the files are here!

Like the first volume, Velveteen vs. The Junior Super Patriots, the ebook is priced at $9.99. I understand that this is high for an ebook, but a) it's a small publisher trying to recoup costs, and b) all the stories remain free to read online. So please buy the ebook to help me feed my cats, and please don't complain about the cost. If you don't like the price, you can always read the exact same stories here on my blog, free of charge, forever. (The stories as they appear in the books have been edited lightly for continuity, and checked for spelling and grammar errors. They are still 90% the same as they were in their first appearance.)

The wait is over! Let the wild rumpus begin!

ETA: IsFIC is dealing with some technical issues. I will not respond to questions about technical issues. I know nothing of the technical issues. I cannot help you. I'm sorry.

HUZZAH!!! I must buy both ebooks and send them to my superhero-loving comics pusher.

Huzzah!

is this going to be available in print someday, like the last collection?

[identity profile] seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com 2013-10-14 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been available in print for about two months?

I'm 99% positive that the artist on that icon is [livejournal.com profile] ironychan...her art style's pretty distinctive.

More Off-topic Icon speculation

[personal profile] archangelbeth 2013-10-15 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm... not sure, actually. The style of the eyes is very similar with both, but look at the noses. ironychan.deviantart.com/ defaults to much pointier ones. On the other hand, WTF's artist tends to have a single under-the-eye line, and always has, which ironychan doesn't, and which the icon so...

Might be a third artist, all of them influenced from a similar/same source. *wry*

Thank you for this announcement!

Bought, downloaded, emailed to my Kindle via Amazon. I love living in the future ... and this way I don't have to figure out what to read on my commute home.

...Dangit. The mobi file isn't reading for me in Kindle for Android, and it keeps... instantly deleting itself from Kindle for PC every time I try to open it, which is just WEIRD. Is there some kind of DRM on Isfic's ebook files that prevents copying? I copied the file from Downloads to the Kindle folder on the android, and I always make a copy of any ebook I download that isn't stored in an associated cloud account right away and email it to myself as a backup...

If it's just a glitch in this particular file... Argh. Do you know if the Isfic folks have good customer service? v_v;

I've asked our webmaster to help you out with this. The file was ok when I reviewed it using Kindle for Android, but this doesn't prove that everything worked correctly as it moved through all of the steps in the process, from sending it to our webmaster, uploading it to the file server, and then downloading it to you.

So we'll see if we can work with you to figure out what step is failing.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

[identity profile] kalorlo.livejournal.com 2013-10-14 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I am getting an 'invalid start byte' error for the .mobi in Calibre (on Mac just now).

calibre, version 0.9.28
ERROR: Could not open ebook: invalid start byte
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x84 in position 906: invalid start byte

But once updating to 1.60, it opens now. (The first volume always opened). Will try on actual Kindle shortly :)

ETA: yep, all working on the actual machine. Yay!

Ah! Or maybe not. Still, we'll check.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the Calibre e-reader for Windows and the original MOBI is working correctly, so I suspect that there's a problem with the version being downloaded. I will get hold of our webmaster and get a corrected version up there ASAP.

[identity profile] kalorlo.livejournal.com 2013-10-14 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The file I have works in the newest version of Calibre. (Hadn't checked first that there was one). I am assuming it was due to an update in your conversion software between vol 1 and vol 2.

[identity profile] dejadrew.livejournal.com 2013-10-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like I'm sorted! The webmaster emailed me another copy of the file to try, and this one works. Looks like there was a hiccup at some point in the download process and I got an incomplete file. Thanks to you and the webmaster! And, er, apologies to Seanan for cluttering her journal with tech support mope. ^^;

Yay! I do so love Velveteen.

The price is not bad at all. I'm just so grateful that there's an ebook edition in existence :)

I'm so glad. :)

Woo Woo, purchased and devoured in one sitting. It was a fun read!

Yes, there are some technical issues with the download - they are working on it. Seems to be a server issue.

If you run into one, don't panic. Copy the unique download link and your paypal receipt info into an email to webmaster@isficpress.com and they'll just email it to you. It took them less than 15 minutes to sort it out for me.
