Thanks for this - while I'm working on most of these with my 2-year old, it's good to hear suggestions from someone with experience. And I second the leading strings - Josh has one of the animal backpacks, and we replaced the tail with a 16' retractable dog leash. It's great for letting him run while still keeping him out of trouble/traffic/etc. We often regret it when we forget to pack the leash.
