And now, the moment I have been quietly waiting for...

Ahem. From today's announcement at Publishers Weekly:

"Film rights: Mira Grant's trilogy, Feed, Deadline, and Blackout, optioned to Rachel Olschan, producer at Electric Entertainment, by Pouya Shahbazian of FinePrint, on behlf of Diana Fox at Fox Literary."

WE OPTIONED THE FILM RIGHTS TO FEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, this doesn't mean this will necessarily be a movie (although I hope there will), but it takes us a huge, huge step closer to that becoming a reality. Everyone I've dealt with has been amazing, supportive, and enthusiastic, and now there's a beautiful chance that maybe, we can see Shaun and Georgia Mason on the big screen.

How's that for a book-day present?

ETA: Belated comment amnesty, because you guys are awesomely enthusiastic, and wow will I never get to all these comments!

I already commented on "Feed" & future movie(s).

There, has also been comments here, on a "Toby" TV series.
Is there any way we can help that happen? Or would you rather us not (and thus not comment on it anymore)????

The only thing you can do to help it happen is keep buying books. :)

Cheese and cake! Woohoo!

Have we had the "ideal casting" thread for this yet? Maybe I'll start one over on the forums...

Congratulations! I'd been wondering when the books would be optioned — I had no doubt that they would be.

Three huge cheers and lots of wildly flailing Snoopy dances! This is splendid news, and it couldn't happen to a nicer writer. :-)

That is exciting. As you say, it might not lead to a film, but it is a step closer, and that would be ever so cool. Bask in the moment.

This is so exciting. So who do we have to bribe to get these made? I'm willing to put some money in the pot.

FWIW, I'm working in a far distant land this week and read both of my bring-along books on the plane. So I found a B&N and picked up An Artificial Night. Yay Toby!

Hey, I always figured that the only reason the rights hadn't been optioned long since was that the end of the story was still on its way. Nice to be proven correct so promptly!

So as long as wishes are coming true, would you rather have George Romero or Joss Whedon Direct?

It had to happen. I'm so glad it did! This is awesome news, and I'm so happy for you!

I'm hoping that we all get to see Feed on the big screen. Someday, when it's done right.

SQUEE! That's awesome, Seanan. For your sake, I hope the movies get made and end up big box office draws. For me: this probably sounds weird, but I love your books too much to watch movies made from them. I have my own ideas of what everyone and everything looks like, and movies made from books I've loved never live up to my mental images.

Good luck, though! =o)

I totally hear where you're coming from with that (although I'll admit, if they make a movie, I hope EVERYONE will go, just so it makes a bazillion dollars and everything I've ever written will get optioned).
