I love that she "lives" in my adopted home city of Portland, and I love your way of worldbuilding the background elements (which almost always doubles as foreshadowing) one short paragraph or an aside at a time (usually by way of a short conversation that takes place when Vel isn't looking). Filing that little technique away for future reference. :)
